Stage West is a 501 (c)(3) Not For Profit Organization. Stage West is an amateur theater company operating as Hernando County Florida’s oldest community theater. For over 35 years Stage West has provided the residents of Hernando, Pasco, and Citrus counties quality theatrical entertainment at an affordable price.
Our Main Stage production portfolio over the years is an impressive display of some of the best known and most beloved shows of all time. From The King and I, Camelot, and 1776, to A Few Good Men, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and The Odd Couple, Stage West has proven to be a staple in the Tampa Bay area.
In addition to our Main Stage we also offer our Forum stage, an intimate 150 seat theater where we bring the very best theater has to offer. Sometimes avant garde like A Company of Wayward Saints, sometimes controversial like Doubt, or beloved classics such as To Kill a Mockingbird or On Golden Pond, but always an unforgettable experience.
Finally, Stage West is committed to the education and advancement of the arts to the next generation. Each year a series of scholarships are awarded to deserving high school seniors as they pursue their collegiate education. In addition, there are annual children’s productions, as well as workshops.
History
Stage West Community Playhouse was founded in 1980, by a group of people who not only loved live theater, but also enjoyed performing. They put on shows at any available venue such as schools, the local VFW, churches, etc. The Main Stage building was built in 1993, and the Forum Theater was added in 1999. The facility is now recognized as one of the finest Community Theaters in the area. Stage West currently provides the community with live entertainment year round, and is a non-profit organization. The people involved in the operation of the theater are all community members that volunteer their time, including the actors, set builders, painters, ushers, lobby workers, light and sound designers and techs, costumers, back stage workers, board of directors etc. Anyone is welcome to become a member and/or become involved in the theater, in whatever capacity that interests them.
Stage West is proud to donate scholarships each year to deserving local high school seniors. This past year’s scholarships totaled $7,000 dollars, all provided by the patrons who participated in our raffles at each performance.
We want to thank you not only all our hard-working volunteers, but also our patrons, without whom there would be no theater.
